Suspect in Knife Assaults Apprehended

On October 10, 2011 the Patrol Division and Street Crime were able to identify Jerell Simms 25 years old of no certain address at the Traverse Square Housing Development, Middletown, CT. Simms attempted to give officers a fake name as he was being detained.

Simms had several outstanding Middletown Police warrants.

One of the warrants charged Simms with Assault in the Second Degree (53a-60) and Assault in the Third Degree (53a-61) in which he was accused of sending two victims to the hospital on June 29, 2011. Simms was accused of cutting one of the victims with a razor knife across the head causing a large laceration. Simms also punched a second female victim in the face. This incident occurred at the rear of 38 Ferry St. Simms was held on a $250,000.00 bond on this warrant.

A second warrant was for another dispute from May 11, 2011 in which Simms was charged with Threatening in the Second Degree (53a-62) and Larceny 6th (53a-125b). Simms was held on $100,000.00 for this warrant.

Another warrant was for a domestic dispute from June 26, 2011 in which Simms was charged with Disorderly Conduct (53a-182), Criminal Mischief Third Degree (53a-117), and Assault Third Degree (53a-61). Simms was held on a $10,000.00 for this warrant.

A fourth warrant was for Failure To Appear dated July 6, 2011 in which Simms failed to appear in court for CT State Police charges of Possession of Less than four Ounces of Marijuana (21a-279(c) and Operating a Motor Vehicle Under Suspension (14-215). Simms was held on $750.00 for this warrant.

In total Simms was held on a $360,750.00 bond and issued a court date of October 11, 2011.
