Valentine's Day, 105th Birthday Celebration Pack's Eli's

Eli Cannon's was filled Monday night in celebration of the combined birthdays of Middletown power couple Mark Masselli and Jennifer Alexander.  Masselli is a founder, and President/CEO of the Community Health Center, and Jennifer Alexander is founder of Kid City (and co-founder of the Middletown Eye).  Both are longtime downtown residents, and committed and involved leaders in many Middletown civic organizations and initiatives.  They celebrated a combined 105th birthday (you'll have to do the math), and invited family and friends from the community to help them celebrate.  The couple turned the occasion into a fundraiser, vowing to match all donations to a set of worthwhile city causes including ArtFarm, Oddfellows Playhouse and a community music program.

YES your birthday can be in The Eye. The society pages of The Eye clamors for news of births, weddings, birthdays, any social event. Please send us some photos and a paragraph.

Thanks for the kind suggestion Mr. Fishmuscle. I was about to be much more snarky.

Mr. and Mrs. Names Withheld joyously announce the birth of their child, Anon, at 11:34 a.m. on February 15, 2011.

All are invited to attend Anon's birthday celebration to be held at St. Aloysius Hall on a date to be announced. All gifts should be in the form of cash.

I think it is teriffic that a couple uses a birthday party to encourage donations to local non-profits and charitable organizations, while offering to match those contributions! I think that is newsworthy especially in this local news format! If only more of us were so generous!

I do agree this is news worthy however Martels comments are unnecessary and not funny.

Was Martel's comment mean? Maybe I missed something, but I thought it was hysterical. Can't wait for the "most popular baby names" list to come out this year - surely Anon will be at the top!

(1) No comment on this blog is ever truly "necessary".

(2) Funny/not funny is in the eye (The Eye?) of the beholder.

(3) I guess I shouldn't send in a copy of Anon's wedding announcement.

Really, who are all those people in the photos? A few are known to me but not all.

I'm certain other readers would like to know as well. Please identify the folks in the photos and continue to do so (it's the right thing to do).
