City Health Director Sal Nesci said that any resident in need of help can call a central number to receive help for shelter, food or health needs. That number is 860-344-3495.
Nesci said that the city had relocated 29 individuals, in 14 hotel rooms in the city. It's estimated that up to 100 people were temporarily displaced, but several of those residents have been readmitted to buildings that were judged safe for habitation.
Nesci said the city is currently working with the Red Cross to set up food vouchers for displaced individuals.
City law allows for aid to displaced residents for up to three days after which landlords are required to provide alternative housing. Nesci said that there is no indication that long-term or permanent relocation will be required, but the Health Department will work with residents and landlords to be sure that accomodations are made available.
