Lawrence School Evacuated Due to Smell of Gas

Superintendent Michael Frechette confirmed that Lawrence School was evacuated today because of a smell of gas. The smell was checked out and students were eventually let back into school. A Honeywell Alert went out to parents.

No other details are available at present, but I'm scheduled to hear from the Lawrence Principal later tonight. Any parent who received the Honeywell Alert is welcome to share the content of the alert by posting a comment to this article.

An external natural gas leak was detected at Lawrence School this afternoon. The school was evacuated and 911 was called. The gas has been shut off by Yankee Gas. The Fire Department has allowed the students and staff to reoccupy the building. There will be regular dismissal today and all after school activities will be held. The source of the leak is being determined and repairs will be facilitated as soon as possible.

This was the alert we received close to 2 hours after the incident.

So the gas leak is being determined and the kids are let back into the school????? Kids outside without coats and not moved to another school? Still no word on whether there will be heat in the school tomorrow...
