Mayor Declares State of Emergency Beginning at 9PM

From the City of Middletown

Mayor Sebastian Giuliano has declared a state of emergency starting at 9 P.M. this evening.  The Mayor anticipates the forecasted snow and icy conditions may cause extended power outages throughout the city.  A citywide parking ban is currently in effect.

In preparation for the upcoming storm, residents are reminded of the following:

·     People are asked to stay off city streets to allow plows and sand trucks to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles
·     Be sure all exits to your home are clear of snow and debris to allow for emergency egress
·     Make sure all exhaust ventilation for heating appliances are kept clear of snow and ice to prevent a buildup of carbon monoxide
·     Snow should be removed from flat or low pitched roofs
·     Residents with well water should keep extra containers of water on hand should you lose power
·     Residents with well water and a septic systems should keep the bathtub filled with water for sanitary purposes
·     If alternate heating sources are used, all precautions should be followed and should be operated according to manufacturers instructions

Residents are asked to contact 911 only in case of emergency.  Updates will be issued as new information becomes available.

Thank you to all those involved in clearing the snow, keeping the roads passable, and making things easier for all of us Middletown residents. Don't listen to those naysayers...They should put a shovel where their mouth is. You're doing a wonderful job under horrific circumstances!

It would be nice if the Mayor explained what the State of Emergency means.
