Around Middletown in 80 Days: Day 41

Mt. Higby Reservoir and Cliffwalk

For hikers, birdwatchers, plant enthusiants, or those looking for a scenic picnic, Mount Higby offers a lovely natural retreat not far from downtown Middletown. The mountain is traversed by the 50-mile Mattabesett Trail, and feautures a two-mile long cliffline known as Metacomet ridge offering scenic views of the Quinnipiac River valley, and the beautiful Higby Mountain Reservoir. At this time of year, the mountain is afire with the spectacular colors of the changing leave and is definitely a sight worth seeing.
The Mattabessett Trail at the north end of Mt. Higby at the junction of Miner Road and Interstate 91, exit 20 in Middletown; parking is permitted along the road.
