From the Fisher House Foundation
A wine tasting and silent auction to benefit military
recovering from combat injuries will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday,
August 14, 2010 at Esca Restaurant and Wine Bar on 437 Main Street.
Wine for Warriors will raise funds to defray the cost of housing the
families of military personnel who must travel long distances for
medical treatment. The $75 ticket price, which includes hors devours, a
selection of wines and live jazz, will benefit the Fisher House
Foundation.
Fisher House donate "comfort homes" built on the grounds of major
military and VA medical centers to house the families of injured and
sick military personnel so that they may be close to their loved ones as
they receive treatment for unexpected illness, injury or disease.
Wine for Warriors is organized by long-time friends Michael D'Amico
and Tom Paranzino of Middletown. Paranzino's younger brother is 1st Lt.
Jim Paranzino, who is currently serving his second tour of combat duty
overseas in Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army.
Lt. Paranzino left a wife and 9 month old daughter home in the states.
Co-Chair Paranzino is all too familiar with the sacrifices made by the
men and women of our military. "Our soldiers and their families
sacrifice so much on a daily basis and this is a great way for those of
us who aren't directly serving to give back."
D'Amico is a disabled information technology professional who works for
the state court system. While he is not a veteran, D'Amico wanted to
find a way to support the troops. "Recovery from a catastrophic injury
is difficult enough without having to face it alone," says D'Amico who
relies on a wheelchair for mobility. "I know first hand how important
the support of family and friends can be during this process."
With 96 percent of all donations going directly to benefit families
in need, the Fisher House Foundation consistently receives "4-star"
rating from the leading charity review web site "Charity Navigator".
Wine for Warriors will also feature a silent auction with many local
businesses and services donating items.
Anyone who would like more information about the event or to make a
donation or provide an item for the silent auction, may contact D'Amico
or Paranzino at (860) 729-6666, by email at info@wineforwarriors.com or
