From the Middletown Police

On August 6, 2010 at approximately 7:30 pm Middletown Patrol Units responded to a domestic dispute at 14 Evergreen Ave. 1st Floor. Upon arrival Sgt. Prokop and Off. Martz observed Amber Schmidt of 14 Evergreen Ave 1st Floor age 23 at the rear of the residence. Julian Clark also of 14 Evergreen Ave. 1st Floor age 24 was inside of the residence. Sgt. Prokop and Officer Martz could smell the strong odor of marijuana emanating form inside of the residence. Detectives form the Street Crime Unit and Detective Bureau also arrived on scene.
Officers would locate some marijuana and smoking bongs inside of the residence. Later Officers discovered a room containing a large amount of packaged marijuana and an elaborate marijuana grow. There was also a small amount of hashish located inside of the residence.
The marijuana grow would consist of 39 plants ranging in height from 2 feet to 5 feet.

The elaborate grow system included powerful lamps, hydroponic bedding, a large amount of potting soil, vacuum sealers, high powered electric ballasts, air cooled heat reflectors, plastic curtains, digital scales, fertilizers, electric timers, digital thermometers, hydroponic grow box, light rails, air purifiers, exhaust fans, and numerous mason jars for storage.
The total weight of the plants was approximately eight pounds. The total weight of the packaged marijuana recovered was over six pounds.
Julian Clark was subsequently arrested for the following charges and held on a $150,000.00 Bond:

This makes me so sad...I wish those two luck, and wish stories like this were a thing of the past.
I could do without these non-life-threatening crime reports. Does the Eye really have the responsibility of bringing this type of activity to community attention? The Chronicle publishes enough "Lights and Sirens" information on Middletown's ne'er-do-wells and miscreants. Other opinions?
