Vocal summit festival

Some talented singers and songwriters will be visiting the Buttonwood Tree in the next couple of weeks.

On Friday, September 12 it's Stacy Phillips and Paul Howard. Stacy Phillips is an internationally acclaimed resonator guitarist and violin player. He has performed with the top acoustic musicians over the world. He has three solo albums and is featured artist on the Grammy award-winning album The Great Dobro Sessions. Stacy is the author of over 25 books and DVD's on various aspects of his chosen instruments.

The next evening, Saturday September 13, it's Frank Critelli, a Connecticut songwriter with an enthusiastic following in New England. The New Haven Advocate says:
Critelli's melodies -- and his lush backing vocals -- betray a clear debt to '60s and '70s pop, yet this is not light fare. He addresses falling friendships, sex, love and breakdowns in communication, and does so without becoming heavy-handed or maudlin. His statements are personal but upfront; even with the tricks the studio allows him, his songs are strong enough to stand alone with just a voice and guitar.

The Buttonwood Tree is at 605 Main Street. For more information, call 347-4957.
