A record-breaking field of
runners and walkers – many in costume – participated in the 2015 MxCC
Foundation Scholarship Road Race Saturday, October 31. More than $14,000 was raised for MxCC student
scholarships, with $2,000 donated to helping veterans’ support services at the
College. More than 275 people participated as 5k or 10k race runners, or as 4k
course walkers – the largest group in race history.
The overall 10K champions were Brad
Overturf of Cromwell with a time of 39:33 and Alyssa Cole of Woodbury with a
time of 42:38. The overall 5k champions were Mark Groom (pictured here), a veteran, of
Middletown with a time of 19:20 and Lauren Hurst of West Simsbury (pictured below) with a time
of 23:00. Additionally, the MxCC staff and faculty champions were Troy Schinkel
of Wolcott with a time of 19:37 (5K) and Christine Witkowski of Glastonbury
with a time of 24:47 (5K).
“This was our first Halloween
race in a long time, so it was great to see so many runners and walkers arrive
in costume,” said Jay Keiser, chairperson of the MxCC Scholarship Race
Committee. “It was a fun twist on this
popular tradition, which was record-breaking this year. Thanks to our sponsors and supporters who
make this such as successful fundraiser for our scholarship and veterans
support programs.”
