In
honor of Earth Day 2016, Mayor Daniel T. Drew in conjunction with athletes from
Unified Sports Special Olympics will be making an announcement at the Guida
Farm Conservation Area in Middletown on Friday, April 22nd. Athletes from
Unified Sports Special Olympics will be traveling to the Guida Farm
Conservation Area to enjoy some of the area’s scenic trails. The Mayor is
excited to officially announce the release of the 2016 Middletown trail guide
and to also present on some of the City’s environmental initiatives and efforts
to encourage the use of open space. We encourage all to attend. The Unified
Sports Special Olympics hike will commence around 10:30 followed by the Mayor’s
announcement at 11:30.
On
Saturday, April 23rd, also in honor of Earth Day, the City’s Conservation
Commission will hosted a guided walk at the Guida Farm Conservation Area at 9
a.m. (raindate 4/23 at 9 a.m.). A naturalist will be on hand with a table of
animal artifacts. An information presentation on the area's geology will kick
off the event, led by Elisabeth Holder and Kim Antol. The guided
walk around the fields and woods of Guida will take place right after. Walkers
should expect a gentle terrain, with spots that can get muddy at times.
The
Guida Farm Conservation Area is located at the intersection of Round Hill Road
and Coleman Road in the City of Middletown.
