Council 4 Union Endorses Giuliano and Six Others in Middletown;

Slate Includes Three Union Members

Middletown, CT, 2011 – Council 4 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), a union with nearly 650 members who reside in Middletown, today announced it has endorsed the following candidates in the November municipal election:

Mayor: Seb Giuliano

Common Council: Ed Dypa, Linda Salafia, Deborah Kleckowski, Philip Pessina

Board of Education: Tami Kapacziewski

Planning & Zoning: Molly Salafia

Council 4’s endorsed slate includes three of its own union members: Linda Salafia and Tami Kapacziewski (Local 466, City of Middletown) and Philip Pessina (Local 2836, State University Administrators).

“Speaking as a taxpaying resident and city worker, I could not be happier with the slate of candidates our Council 4 union has endorsed,” said Jeff Daniels, a police maintenance mechanic and President of AFSCME Local 466. “Starting with Mayor Giuliano, these are quality people who will stand up for the middle class and fight for quality public services.”

Mayor Giuliano welcomed Council 4’s endorsement.

Middletown is a diverse and vibrant community. Thanks to the relationships I have built with unions like AFSCME, we’ve been able to stabilize our budgets and taxes, making our city a great place to live, learn and work. I am proud to receive Council 4’s endorsement and I will continue to forge a relationship based on mutual trust and respect with all our workers.”

Council 4 AFSCME represents 35,000 workers in state and local government as well as the private sector. Learn more atwww.council4.org.

And the Middletown Eye continues to do its best to become the Republican Eye -- allowing a Republican candidate to post a Republican press release verbatim without context, commentary or anything even remotely journalistic.

Was a vote taken by 466? No! You know why? Because the vast majority of City Employees will vote for Drew and the Dems.

Jeff Daniels and Linda Salafia (Molly's mom) are on their way out and they know it.

The Eye is not becoming the Republican Eye. We welcome all submissions, views and perspectives and we continue to keep an EYE on and report on ALL happenings in Middletown, political and not, to the best of our ability. The simple reason for the increased coverage of the Republican Party lately is because they hold events and actively produce and submit content to us. Four posts down is an article by Bill Flood, an Eye correspondent who was able to make time to attend the associated press conference and provide an article with a bit more substance than the verbatim press release. The press release was also published here verbatim as a supplement, and also because we are an all-volunteer organization that cannot easily coordinate on every single post. We feel that more information is better than not enough. We have posted plenty of Democrat-related articles and press releases too. We always try our best, though you are correct that we are not journalists. We are volunteer reporters. We thank you for reading the Eye.
