Commentary by Ed McKeon
Last night after the Common Council meeting I had a civil discussion with Councilman Jim Streeto. We debated politely about the word "political." I had used it in a pejorative sense, thinking about the worst things that politics has devolved into. He encourage me to see "politics" in a positive light, understanding that true political skill combines leadership, ingenuity, hard work and compromise.
In our quest for sanity in government, I urge you to keep Attorney Streeto's words in mind when you enter the voting booth today. Vote for the people you think will bring the best of politics to government.
But vote. Not voting is a sign of the kind of cynicism that will allow the worst of politics to linger in governmental circles, and create a dangerous standstill in the progress we need to make.
So vote. Your vote is your voice.
