WANTED! A request from the Community Music Initiative

The Community Music Initiative is alive and well in Middletown! We have two more events before the holiday season hits, and then we'll be back in January, every other Saturday as usual. All events are from 11am-1:30pm at the Green Street Arts Center. Activities include workshops on drumming and singing, short performances, lunch, and music games. It's all free and open to everyone.

*The remaining dates are November 6th (this Saturday!) and November 20th.

For information on lessons, jam sessions, and more spontaneous music-making, please email emily@neatmiddletown.org or call 860 346 4845. We'd love to hear from you! We've also got a website: http://neatmiddletown.org/community%20music.htm

And now to business: CMI would be nothing without the support and participation of the community! So we are here to ask if anyone can help us fill these gaps in our program...

Wanted - one keyboard, in decent condition, light-weight, touch sensitivity preferred but not required. Our piano student base is growing rapidly, and we need keyboards for use at events, buddy lessons, and for beginning students. If you would be willing to donate a keyboard, please get in touch! Your donation to NEAT is tax-deductible and will help us spread music around the neighborhood.

Wanted - one strumstick teacher! The strumstick is a super-easy instrument to play. It's basically a dulcimer which you strum like a guitar. To see and hear one, check out this website: http://www.strumstick.com/.

The teacher would need to commit for at least six months to lead a group strumstick meeting for children ages 6-13. The group could meet twice a month, weekly, or even just once a month, but some kind of consistency is a must. Teaching experience, a positive playful attitude, and the willingness to commit are our main priorities. The musical goals for the class are to improve students' listening, cooperation, and communication skills while instilling an intuitive understanding of basic chords, strumming patterns, and melodies. If you are at all interested, please contact me at emily@neatmiddletown.org and we can discuss details (scheduling, compensation, space, etc).
