Riverfront Redevelopment Commission Items On Council Agenda

The Common Council will act on two items related to the Riverfront Redevelopment Commission. It will first consider an appropriation of $75,000, for the Planning and Development Office "to retain a consulting firm to help facilitate public discussion to develop vision for waterfront." The Commission voted at its April 2nd meeting to hire the New York firm, Project for Public Spaces.

The mayor has also decided to add a new member to the Commission. He has appointed John Meerts, Wesleyan's Vice President for Finance and Administration. If he is confirmed by Council, Meerts will join on the committee Gerald Daley (chair), Joe Bibisi (Vice Chair), Larry McHugh, Mike DePiro, Rich Pelletier, Dan Russo, Joe Carta; Elaine Bank, Wendy Sheil, Jamie Mills, and Sheila Stoane.

The Council meeting begins at 7PM in City Hall, there is a public hearing on these and other agenda items. The full agenda is available through the city's web site.

Are you saying, Ed, that he's a Guinness man?

Is that a hint of sarcasm (shocking as it may seem to his character) in Ed's comment?

In other city hall news, one Carl Chisem was recently appointed to the p&z commission. Acc. to the Middletown Press, "Chisem is a longtime transportation professional, a Middletown resident and has served on the Mayor’s Task Force on Efficiency in Government." And acc. to the Courant, "Chisem, a Democrat, will replace commission member Michael Johnson, who has resigned. Chisem ran for the commission in November of 2011, but was not elected. He served as an alternate member on the commission in the 1990s."
