From Michael Piscopiello.
---------------

The second annual Greater Middletown Pizza War will be held May 8th at the Sons of Italy on Court Street. Feed the People Charity Inc. and the Middletown Press are sponsoring the event to benefit Saint Vincent de Paul of Middletown. Last year’s event drew in 300 pizza lovers from around the city who sampled the best pizzas in the area. This year’s event has eight restaurants competing for “Best Pizza”. This year’s participants include from last year, Mondo, First and Last Tavern, Tommy’s Restaurant, and Domino’s Pizza; joining the event this year are Da Vinci Pizza, Carmine’s Pizza, Pappa John’s and Price Chopper.

Mondo Restaurant was last year’s winner and helped along with the other competing restaurants to raise $3000 for Saint Vincent de Paul. Saint Vincent de Paul founded in 1980 by the Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Diocese of Norwich. St. Vincent de Paul meets the needs of the poor and homeless in greater Middletown. A four-pronged mission, St. Vincent's provides nutritious meals through our community Soup Kitchen and connects people to basic support services and emergency funds through their Community Assistance Program. Saint Vincent de Paul also operates the Amazing Grace Food Pantry and a Supportive Housing Program serving individuals with disabilities.

Feed the People Charity Inc. and the Middletown Press are looking forward to a fun family night with good natured competition between the participating restaurants. Please make an effort to come out and support Saint Vincent de Paul and your favorite pizza restaurant. The pizza war starts at 5:00 pm. and runs till 7:30 pm at the Sons of Italy at 72 Court Street, Middletown. The winner will be announced at the end of the event. Donations are $10 per person, $30 for a family of four, children 5 and under eat free.
