The
Buttonwood Tree is always hoppin and poppin on the first Thursdays of
the month and the other night was no exception! We heard two young
gentlemen perform last night for Bob Gotta's Open Mic. A young man, Henry Sidle,
age 13 and his younger brother from Hamden made their first showing
at TBT last night with a wonderful rendition of "Have Mercy"
by The Mighty Diamonds and "Torn and Frayed" by The Rolling
Stones. Sidle's voice belied his youthfulness and his instrumentation
revealed accomplishment, especially for a student of the guitar for
only two years. The younger brother played the jembe and their sound
was surprisingly entertaining. The veterans in the room were quite
pleased and encouraged the youngsters to return. They said they
would, with wide grins on their faces.
Upcoming
tonight at The Buttonwood Tree, singer/songwriter Brian Colburn with
pianist Ryan Heidel will be playing at TBT. We recruited Ryan from his many excellent open mic performances. Colburn has
appeared with acts such as the Plain White T's, Blues Traveler, and
Toad the Wet Sprocket. For a summer night, Colburn's laid back sound
will surely hit the spot!
