Hunter Arrested for December Shooting on Atkins Street

This is an update from the Middletown Police, regarding a single gunshot on Atkins Street near Pinehurst Place, reported on previously in The Eye.
--------------
As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that William Woods, 9-8-81, was hunting in the area that day and fired a single shot at a deer. Woods quickly left the area prior to police arriving on scene. Middletown Police detectives located Woods at his Wethersfield residence and interviewed Woods in reference to this incident. As a result of the investigation Woods admitted to firing the shot in an area unsuitable for hunting, therefore causing the bullet to travel within the residential neighborhood.

Probable cause was established to arrest Woods and on 01/07/10, Woods voluntarily came in to Middletown Headquarters to be processed on an active Arrest Warrant. The accused was arrested and charged with:
  • Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree
  • Negligent Hunting 4th degree
  • Hunting within 500 ft. of a building
Woods was released on a $1000.00 non-surety bond and was given a court date of 1-21-10.
