Great Cedars!
Celebrating Trees, Trails and Fish Superhighways in Old Saybrook
Saturday, September 19, 2009
10:00 am – 1:00pm
The Rockfall Foundation and the Town of Old Saybrook invite you, friends and family to come explore some of the natural treasures of the Great Cedars Conservation Area, a 300-acre stop along Old Saybrook’s magnificent Natural Heritage Tour. Enjoy a guided, late-summer trail hike to view majestic Atlantic White Cedars, including the 2003 CT state champion tree (with a circumference of nearly 6 feet). Along the way see one of three of Old Saybrook’s state-of-the-art fishways, which are helping to reestablish fish migration routes along the Oyster River.
Our moderate hike with some inclines will last about one hour. Gather for pre-hike introductions in the outdoor pavilion of Clark Community Park, and return afterwards for exhibits, conversation and an informal picnic lunch. Box lunches will be available for a donation of $5. Or bring your own lunch; beverages and dessert will be provided. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle and lawn chair for lunch.
To register: contact Claire Rusowicz, Rockfall Foundation (860)347-0340, crusowicz@rockfallfoundation.org. Advanced reservation for a box lunch is required by Sept. 14.
Parking and directions: Parking is at Clark Community Park—Rout 1 going west in Old Saybrook, right on Schoolhouse Road 1.25 miles to the park entrance on the right.
