Economic Development Commission Busy Tonight

The EDC has a full agenda for their meeting this week (6PM tonight, Room 208 in City Hall), including a review of three proposals for new uses of the city-owned land in Maromas (the former CVH property).

They will hear an update on the Harbor Park Restaurant lease, and the Lady Katharine Cruises lease. They will go into executive session to discuss the Midfield Corporation property at the corner of College and Broad, and discuss the Extension of Federal Transportation Funds for the Riverview Arcade Garage. However, these items are not expected to generate any discussion, Councilman Gerry Daley told me in an email, "[we] will just get brief updates from staff ... if there has been no change in their status."

The commission will hear from the three applications for new uses for the formerly state-owned land in Maromas. The Connecticut Forest and Park Association will present its proposal for hiking trails which will connect with the blue trail on adjacent land. Artfarm will present its proposal for an arts and agriculture center, and Arawana Golf Course will present its proposal for a public golf course.

Daley wrote, "I want to allow each proposer 15 to 20 minutes for his/her presentation plus another 10 minutes or so for questions from the committee."

The committee will make recommendations to the full Common Council on how to proceed with the proposals for using the city-owned open space.

The committee will also make a recommendation to the Council on a REINVEST application from a new restaurant on Church Street, the Cardinal's Nest.

There is a public session at the beginning of the meeting, where members of the public may comment on any of the itms on the agenda. Daley said that he wants to reserve adequate time for the presentation on the former CVH lands, and will ask speakers from the public to be as brief as possible.
