Middletown Vet's Swim Team Wins

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vet’s of Middletown Wins 2011 Central Connecticut Summer Swim League Senior Championship

(Middletown, CT) -- Middletown’s Vet’s Pool Summer Swim Team clinched first place at the Central Connecticut Summer Swim League (CCSL) Senior Championship. Held on August 3rd at Middletown High School, the event marks the first time the young Middletown team has won the Division I title.

“We had a phenomenal meet. We had 45 swimmers compete in the meet and every single one of them scored points for our team,” said Nick Dagenais, Founder and Program Director of the Vet’s Pool Summer Swim Team. “We won because each of our swimmers were invested in our team goal and were willing to give everything they had to achieve it.”

The CCSL Senior Championship meet featured swimmers ages 13 and up from 13 towns including Berlin, Bloomfield, East Hartford, Enfield, Middletown, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, South Windsor, Tolland, Vernon, Wethersfield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks.

Vet’s began competing in the CCSL in 2009, and finished last summer’s season in third place. “It’s our third season competing in the league, and the best finish we’ve ever had,” said Dagenais. “We were 2-2 in the regular season, and came back to take the championship.” Vet’s captured the championship by two points over rival South Windsor who has held the title for the past two years.

The Vet’s swim team began in 2007 as an instructional and competitive program of the Middletown Parks and Recreation Department for the youth of Greater Middletown. Since its inception, the team has nearly doubled its membership and today has more than 100 swimmers on its junior and senior teams.

Coach Dagenais, a Middletown native, captained the Middletown High boys swim team from 2006-2007, and swam for Boston College’s NCAA Division I varsity swim team, serving as captain his senior year.
