Adopt-A-Family Program

From the South Fire District

The South Fire District and the South Fire District Firefighters Local 3918 team up to help local families in need this holiday season.

Saturday, December 18, 2010, members of the South Fire District and the South Fire District Firefighters Local 3918 are conducting their 2nd annual "Adopt a Family" program. The program assists families in need during the holiday season. Four families from the South District area have been "adopted" by the firefighters this year. Gifts and food items will be delivered to the families by a caravan of decorated fire apparatus, Santa in his sleigh along with his elves and bus loads of carolers. The event kicks off at 4 PM at South Fire District Headquarters located at 445 Randolph Rd.

The "Adopt a Family" program in Middletown originally began 15 years ago by two Middletown Police Officers. South Fire District has been involved since its inception, and formally took over the program two years ago following the retirement of those two officers.

I guess the rest of the needy families in the City do not get this program. If I remember the two cops did the ENTIRE City. Again SFD only serves when its convenient for them. Too bad they cant see the forest beyond their one tree!

The Adopt a family program is great, and the SFD firefighters have done this for years, raising thousands of dollars for many families in the district. Thanks guys! You're the best!

Won't see any yellow trucks in the procession, will we?

Many programs only serve the down town so what's the problem with this program?Purchase for Warm the Children or Salvation army there are many options and with so many all families can be covered.

It's great to help people, but why is the added cost of delivering items in fire apparatus necessary?

To Anonymous 1:19--Is that really your major concern? You are a sad, sad person. Merry Christmas to you.
