Santa's Brittle Helper

"The Santaland Diaries" opened tonight at Oddfellows Playhouse - first of all, kudos to Tony Palmieri, all alone on stage for nearly 60 minutes, having to get undressed in front of the audience and changing into a elf costume. Lesser actors would fall apart.

Seriously, Palmieri nailed David Sedaris's curmudgeonly character, did a smashing job of bringing the audience into the play and the life of the protagonist forced to work in a large department store during the holiday season.  Some of the humor is cruel, some tasteless but much of it is right on target, especially if you have been involved in retail - shopping just brings the "bizarro" out in some people.

However, you can't go on Friday night because the show is already sold out.  But tickets are still available for the 7 and 9 p.m. shows on Saturday and the 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Go online to www.oddfellows.org and reserve a space (or 2) or call 860-347-6143  - This show is guaranteed to make you laugh and, besides, there is no return policy.
