Board of Education Honors Jukins

"It's like Ground Hog day," second-grade Macdonough Elementary School teacher Joanne Jukins said after being honored again by the Board of Education for earning recognition as a McDonalds Local Hero of the Year in Connecticut.

Jukins, who was honored in a ceremony at the Governor's Mansion shared the honor with her fellow teachers, students, parents and her own "heroes," her children.

I thought Ms. Jukins gave a wonderful speech - off the cuff - about the opportunities that Middletown teachers give their students, including her own children who are in the local school system. It's just like her to use this opportunity to turn the spotlight on her colleagues. She said that all teachers are her heroes - Ms. Jukins, you are ours!

Congratulations, Joanne! You are so modest - I had not heard. A well deserved honor for an awesome teacher and a terrific parent...and a super supportive crew mom, too! So very happy for you and for Macdonough
