Democratic Picnic Sunday

The annual Democratic picnic is this Sunday, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at McCutcheon Park at Crystal Lake, Livingston Road.

The party has announced that the full slate of Democratic candidates will be there, including the 4 candidates for the September 10th Planning and Zoning primary, Rob Blanchard, Stephen Devoto, Dan Russo, and Paul Turenne. This is a good chance to meet all of them in one place and ask them questions.

Some state-wide elected officials will also attend.

There is a $10 per person charge.

HOW is it possible that a party holds a fundraiser at a public facility? Not legal-

I don't know about the legality, but I wouldn't call $10 a head a fund-raiser, either.

Jane if it were the GOP you would

I respectfully disagree. I have helped run a lot of fund-raisers (never for politicians, I will admit) but I can tell you $10 doesn't cut it. And I find it offensive that you, Mr/Ms Anonymous, assume you know what I would say or do.

This year’s elections for P and Z are an embarrassment to the town. Why don’t you all grow up! I didn’t see Steve or Ed or anyone else on this blog at the picnic! That the picnic was forced inside - on a glorious day - because of distasteful rhetoric is also a sure sign how "divisive politics" hurts everyone. It is also not good for Middletown or anyone that calls themselves a democrat!

The picnic held in years past at the lake was joy and – and at a park that deserves the laughter and joy of such an occasion! I hope this political gamesmanship and your collective out of control egos will stop. Now! Apologize to one another and move on before you make us sick! Everyone I talk to that read your public lashings given one another feel sorry for you. Do you really think anyone cares! Put Middletown first. Act like a grown-ups and solve your problems – not spill it all over the web and papers! You should all be ashamed of yourselves

I am extremely disappointed that the picnic was 'moved' from a park to headquarters, especially after I had announced to many Middletown Democrats that I would be there.

When I inquired of a senior Democratic leader about going to headquarters during the picnic, I was told in no uncertain terms that my presence would be "illegal", because the rent was paid for by donors who intended for their money to be used for other candidates. I was not interested in testing this doctrine, so I did not attend my party's annual picnic.

I am sorry to have missed it, because it was the first time that anybody might have seen all four candidates discuss Planning and Zoning.

Ironically, I was treated most graciously by the Democrats at Esca's when Senator Blumenthal came to town. I guess if you are not perceived as much of a threat you are given a warmer welcome.
You should take it as a complement as to your effectiveness as a politician.
