From the Middletown Police Department
On 05-06-10, at approximately 1:34 am, the Middletown Police Department responded to 60 Ferry Street for the report of multiple gunshots. As Patrol Units converged on the area where the gunshots originated, a male party fleeing from the area of the scene was detained by an officer working private duty on Main Street. The officer quickly realized that the party was bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. The 28 year old victim, shot in the head and arm was then transported to the Middlesex Emergency Room and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Middletown Police Department’s Major Investigation Unit was called to assist. The Investigation revealed that the victim and the accused had a verbal altercation earlier in the evening. At approximately 1:34 am, the accused allegedly located the victim in the rear parking lot of to 60 Ferry Street and begun to shoot at him. The accused, later identified as Saul Aviles (age 21, of 546 Main Street, apt 3R) shot numerous times, striking the victim in the head and wrist area. The victim was able to escape by running towards Main Street. According to the victim and witnesses, Aviles was said to have shot 5 – 6 times.
Aviles was subsequently apprehended and charged with:
Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder
Assault in the 1st Degree
Criminal Possession of a Firearm
Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm
Reckless Endangerment
Tampering with Evidence
Carrying a Pistol/Revolver w/o a permit
Violation of a Protective Order
Aviles is being held on a $750,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court on May 7th, 2010. No mug shot available.
