Amazing Challenge Benefits Amazing Grace

St. Vincent dePaul Middletown and the Amazing Grace Food Pantry are once again hosting the kickoff of the Amazing Challenge. This year, the Amazing Challenge will coincide with the beginning of the 30th anniversary year of St. Vincent dePaul ministries in Middletown.

The Amazing Challenge will be held Saturday, October 2, 2010, from 6 – 8:30 PM at the Monsignor M. Davitt Fox Parish Center at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Middletown. It will feature a soup supper, consisting of eight different soups, donated by area restaurants, caterers and churches. In addition, it is also a thank you to the many volunteers and donors to Amazing Grace throughout the year.
The Amazing Challenge began several years ago when Mayor Sebastian Giuliano proposed a match of 50 cents from the city to every dollar raised by Amazing Grace, up to $25,000.00. Every year, the match has been realized and has been an important part of the Amazing Grace program.
This year, a live auction and silent auction will be featured, along with plenty of bread, soup and friendly music provided by the wonderful Back Swamp band.
In addition to the Amazing Challenge, the 30th anniversary of St. Vincent dePaul, will also feature several other events throughout the year. On November 27th, an Ecumenical service will be held at the Amazing Grace Food Pantry at our new location on 16 Stack Street in Middletown. Bishop Michael Cote will be joined by other faith leaders in a special blessing and thanksgiving for the works of mercy and caring in our community, followed by lunch at the soup kitchen.

June 11, 2011 brings the “Stroll Middletown with St. Vincent dePaul” event. This event will begin at South Congregational Church and include all the downtown churches. Refreshments will be served and conclude with coffee and dessert at the soup kitchen and a concert by the Greater Middletown Chorale at St. John’s Church.  The students at Middlesex Community College are writing a book called “Stories from the Soup Kitchen” and a book event will be held at the college during the celebration year.

Please join our staff, volunteers, St. Vincent dePaul Board members, Amazing Grace Advisory Board members, donors and guests as we gather together to call for a renewed commitment of community support.
