Kids Arts 2014 Registration Begins - Packets Available Online

Summertime is a time for fun for children - it can also be educationally enriching! Kids Arts 2014 offers both!
Application brochures are available online.

Kids Arts is a Summer arts enrichment program for children ages 6 to 14 sponsored by the City of Middletown Commission on the Arts. It's a 5-week program running from June 30 through August 1. There are 3 half-day programs to choose from with some opportunity for full-day enrollment. The programs offered this year are:

Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theater presents the 26th Children’s Circus of Middletown. This 5-week, half-day program, which has become a national model, culminates in a spectacular outdoor circus performance before a crowd of over 1,000. Children will be trained in acrobatics, dance, juggling, unicycling, stilt walking, clowning and visual arts.

North End Arts Rising, Inc. (The Buttonwood Tree folks) offer two programs:
WITHIN THE RAINFOREST ( an exploration of the visual arts and nature )
Spend a fun-filled summer exploring the wondrous and mysterious world of the rainforest as we create art focusing on the elements of water and air. Using mixed media materials such as watercolors, finger paint, fabric, paper, and found objects from nature, students will learn about the function and importance of the rainforest to our ecosystem and how artists incorporate different aspects of nature in their work.
PLAY! ( an exploration of theatre, music and dance )
Let’s create and produce a play! For three days of the week we’ll be exploring water and ocean stories from around the world, and inventing our own tale to tell. Theatre games, role playing, script writing, storytelling, improvisation, acting skills and so much fun! For two days of the week, students will be exploring world music through sound and movement. Discover the art of singing and dancing from cultures around the world. Drumming stomping clapping fun! Teachers and students will work together to present a final performance at The Big Reveal on July 30.

The MCA/City Arts & Culture Office has open registration for Kids Arts 2014. Application brochures are available online, at the City Arts Office, 100 Riverview Center-Suite 140 (next to Fusion Bakery), and they will be distributed to all the public elementary and middle schools and St. Mary's and St. John's schools. Other locations such as Oddfellows Playhouse, The Buttonwood Tree, KidCity, and Amato's will have the brochures also.

The application may be filled out online but then must be printed out and signed before submission to the Arts Office. You can also save the online version to your desktop to fill out later. It is our recommendation that you print out a blank copy of pages 3 and 4. Fill these pages out offline and then go back to complete the application at one sitting. As an alternative, you can finish one page and print it, then go back later to complete the other page. Don't forget to complete all fields and sign.

Don't forget to include any required supporting documentation when sending in or dropping off your application. We hold incomplete registrations for pick up at our office and they are not entered for enrollment until complete. Registration is first come, first served - this is for complete registration packets only.

Out-of-town registrations begin on April 1.

Any questions, please contact the City Arts Office at 860.638.4510 or via email at arts@middletownct.gov

Thank you.
