Readers' Theater, the acting troupe founded by West Hartford resident Myron Gubitz, presents its 3rd and final play of Spring series tonight (April 25) at 7 pm. in the Hubbard Rom of the Russell Library.
"The Substance of Fire", a play written by Jon Robin Baitz, centers on publisher and Holocaust survivor Isaac Geldhart and his thorny relationship with family. The elder Geldhart is happy to publish books of limited interest but his son Aaron, the CFO of the company, is worried about the disappearing bottom line. The son calls a meeting of his brother and sister, the other stockholders in the family business to try and convince the father to publish a novel with contemporary themes that has great commercial potential. The father hates the book, refuses to listen and the results are disastrous for the already tenuous relationships within the family.
The staged reading, featuring (among others) Barbara Gallo, Steve Liskow, Mark Engelhart, and Naomi Kamins (narrator), is free and open to the public. I get to play Isaac Geldhart and a young woman named Erin (I admit to forgetting her last name) plays my daughter (Poster's note - her name is Erin Sullivan.) Refreshments will be served.
