Business moved briskly at Monday's Common Council meeting as council members were well aware that the UCONN men's basketball team was scheduled for a 9:20 tip-off, and the Council faced a full agenda.
The council voted unanimously to continue its support of open space in town with the purchase of the Jablonski property at the base of Mount Higby with a loan from the general fund of $165,750 which will be repaid by a state grant.
The council also showed support of Middletown Youth Soccer by entering into a 25-year lease which will allow the soccer organization to tap into grants for approval of the soccer fields on Country Club Road and Long Hill Road.
Community Health Center's Mark Masselli addressed the council on his retirement from Middletown's Housing Authority. Masselli served for twenty years on the board and spoke of the accomplishments of the Housing Authority as he endorsed the appointment of NEAT director Izzi Greenberg to replace him on the authority. The council gave unanimous approval to Greenberg's appointment.

Wait a minute! No article on the new Deputy Director of Communications and why the former Deputy stepped down? That would be a story!
