First Church of Christ,
Congregational (UCC)
190 Court Street
Middletown, CT
Worship Theme — The Raising of Lazarus
This will be a sermon for the congregation to get involved in – somewhat in the style of African American congregations that generate great energy in the sanctuary with shouts of “amen,” “that’s right,” clapping, standing, and other audible and visual responses.
Let’s prove to ourselves that we are not “God’s frozen people” and step out of our quiet, contemplative worship style. (Note: Last Sunday, John asked people to raise their hands if they thought they could get into this, and about half the congregation did.) You’re free just to sit and listen, of course, but those who want to get actively involved in this way will be invited to do so.)
2nd Hour — Michelangelo’s “Last Judgment”
Art Historian Rhea Higgins will show us slides and talk about Michelangelo’s “Last Judgment” fresco, which he painted on the wall of the Sistine Chapel. The presentation is given in memory of Barbara MacEachern, who had asked Rhea to give a 2nd hour talk on this subject.
