Macdonough Receives Check As Winners of Recess Rocks

Though some will protest otherwise, I try not to engage in self-aggrandizement.

So, in complete disclosure, I will admit that I received recognition at today's Surf's Up assembly at Macdonough Elementary School.  Lucy and I were recognized for donating books to the school, and my sons, Aidan and Dermot, received a Surf's Up award in their second grade classroom.

More importantly, the school was recognized as second-place winners for their anti-obesity video for the Recess Rocks program.  The video club received a $1,000 check as their prize.

In addition, several students were awarded bikes by the school, in conjunction with the Old Lyme organization Bikes for Kids, which provides refurbished bikes, wherever their need, to worthy riders.  The recipients at Macdonough were part of an anti-bullying campaign called See Something, Say Something.

Several member of the Board of Education, the Common Council and the mayor were present at the assembly.
