The Rotary Club of Greater Middletown will host a figure Skating Showcase on Sunday, April 10 at the Champions Skating Center, Cromwell, CT. The Skating Showcase will begin at 2:00 p.m. end at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and kids. All proceeds go to benefit youth scholarships through the Greater Middletown Rotary Club.
The Showcase will feature a variety of skills and performance levels from Tiny Tots to World Class International Champions. Champions Ice Rink offers a variety of classes for those individual who want to learn figure skating or work on their skills. The snack bar will be open, run by Will Longo owner of Nikitia’s in Middletown.
“The skating extravaganza is a celebration of our skaters’ dedication to excellence”, says Bob Crawford, former Hartford Whaler and managing partner of Champions. “It is my experience that friends and family of the skaters are filled with joy to see their kids experience the exhilaration of competition. This is a great way for parents to expose their children to the sport of figure skating. Look on the crowd and experience the families pride and excitement when their child takes the ice and completes a jump never before executed.”
Bob Crawford is the majority managing partner of three ice skating facilities--Champions, ISCC in Simsbury, and the Bolton Ice Palace and a member of the Greater Middletown Rotary Club. Groups from all three skating rinks will be participating in the Ice Skating Showcase in Cromwell on Saturday. Bob says about his career as a Whaler, “I am here because of the Whale and October 2, 1983 was the best day in my professional hockey career. I was traded to Hartford that day and the rest is history!”
Approximately 9 Rotarians from the Middletown Rotary Fundraising Committee will volunteer and help with ticket taking, escorting the various groups, helping seat patrons, and with award presentations.
