Oddfellows Playhouse welcomes Theatre 4 and its production of "Private Eyes" for 2 shows, Friday June 4 and Saturday June 5. The 1998 play, written by Steven Dietz, is described by The Chicago Tribune as "...a romantic comedy in which what's real inevitably turns out to be an illusion. It's a play within a play within a play within a play within a psychiatrist's office—a Chinese box full of tricks and surprises." My spies tell me the play is quite funny but that is all they will say, not wanting to spoil the surprises.
Theatre 4, based in New Haven, is, in its own words, "a collective with a commitment to featuring the talent of Connecticut-based theater professionals." They only been in existence since 2007 but have already garnered great critical acclaim putting on shows that attract and entertain mature audiences.
The cast of "Private Eyes" features organization founding members Mariah Sage and Rebecka Jones along with core member Jackie Sidle. Joining the company for this production is Philip M. Gardiner and Middletown resident Robert Resnikoff (that is he and Rebecka Jones sharing a laugh in bed on the left.) Janie Tamarkin, the other founding member, is the director.
The show starts at 8 p.m. on both nights. For more information and to make reservations, call 203-654-7711 or go to www.t4ct.org.
If you're out of town this weekend or attending other shows, the play moves to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook for 4 shows June 10-13. For more information, go to www.thekate.org or call 877-503-1286.
