"History, Stephen said, is a nightmare from which I am trying to awake:" Bloomsday at The Buttonwood Tree

Bloomsday, the celebration of the life and works of James Joyce, which takes place annually, around the world, on June 16, will be celebrated at the Buttonwood Tree Wednesday evening at 7 PM.

There will be readings from Joyce's Finnegan's Wake and Ulysses along with music by the Jolly Beggars, and an open mic for Middletown residents to recite their own favorite bits of Joyce.

Don't be confused and feel you've wandered into a municipal meeting when you hear a recitation of stream-of-consciousness prose which doesn't make any immediate sense.  It's Joyce, who appreciated the absurdity of everyday convention.

Ed - You sneaked up on us with that remark about the similarity between Joyce's Ulysses and municipal board meetings. Too funny. Stream of consciousness indeed -- one which induces stream of unconsciousness, in my experience. Or lack of conscience? We could go from here.

thank you for the laugh-

Double ha. Self-unconsciousness indeed.

I especially enjoy Joyce's musings on the Dublin Showmobile.
