The Westfield Volunteer Fire Department is holding its annual Chicken Barbecue tomorrow. It is a great occasion to see the inside of the Fire House, and to meet the local fire fighters, most of whom will be there serving dinners.
A couple of years ago at the barbecue, my kids got a personalized tour of the firetrucks from one of the firemen. They got to climb into the cab and pretend to drive off to fight a fire (I was insanely jealous, but too embarrassed to admit that I also wanted to get in there and pretend to hoot the horn with them). Assistant Chief Darrell Ponzio told me that as long as there is a fire fighter who is not too busy serving dinners, tours of the station and the trucks would also be available this year.
This is the only fundraiser that the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department holds each year. The Fire Station is at the corner of East and Miner Streets in Westfield.

Steve - great meeting you this afternoon. Thanks for coming out with to support the fire department. I hope you enjoyed your meal and the "ambiance" eating dinner where a fire engine is usually parked. It was nice chatting with you and your family! Also, thanks for publishing this article. Every little bit of coverage helps!
