On Monday, May 25, 2009 we will celebrate one of the most important days in the calender year, "Memorial Day", a day that offers us,"the general public", to come out and pay respect and give thanks to those who have given us the ability to exercise our first amendment right.
The events will start out on the Washington Green where Veterans will lay a wreath on the war monuments honoring those have given the ultimate sacrifice. The ceremonies will continue with a parade down Main Street Middletown starting on North Main street and continuing to the South Green where another honoring ceremony will take place.
At 1400 hours another ceremony will be held to honor those whom have been laid to rest in our Veterans Cemetery located on Bow Lane.
I would like to recognize American Legion 7th District Commander "Martin Reardon, Sr.", United State Marine Corp Veteran for all of his hard work and dedication to the Veterans throughout Middlesex County.
Mr. Reardon has run the Middletown Parade and Veterans Ceremonies for the past several years and has brought great pride to our community. I would be remiss not to mention his wife who also shares many of the tasks at hand to bring all these events together as well as his son who is serving in the Marines.
Please take time out of your day and come out to show your respect for those who have given you theirs, your support goes a long way for these men and woman who have served their country and fought for what they believe in.
