Common Council Meeting on the Army Base

Common Council special meeting
Wednesday, July 16th, 7PM
Council Chambers
As reported in today's Middletown Press, there will be a  special meeting of the Common Council tonight to discuss the recent decision by the Army Corps of Engineers to locate an Army Base on Boardman Lane in Middletown.  The Common Council by itself is unlikely to be able to convince the Army to move the Base to land suitable for construction of this kind of a large facility. However, their opposition to the selection of a site which costs the city enormously and provides no economic or community benefits to Middletown is absolutely vital. Without their opposition to the irresponsible use of this land, there would be very little hope of convincing our federal representatives (DeLauro, Larson, Courtney, Lieberman, Dodd) to pressure the Army.
There will be a period for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.  Come to voice your opinion on this important issue!  Let our elected local officials know your opinion.

Getting to this meeting may be a big problem due to the 5K race that's closing off several roads around the downtown area. People should leave plenty of time to make sure they can find a parking space and make their way through the (potential) crowds downtown.
