Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Coming

From Michelle Ford, Environmental Planner, Planning, Conservation and Development Dept.
----------------
Mayor Daniel T. Drew is pleased to announce that on December 15, 2015 the City was selected to receive up to $115,000.00 for the purchase of 6 new, Ford Fusion electric vehicles and 12 charging stations.  The grant was awarded to the City by the State of Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Energize Connecticut program.  The charging stations are planned to go in the Melilli Plaza public parking lot and will be available for free to the public for charging of electric vehicles by May of 2016.  The new electric vehicles will be used to replace many of the City’s aging fleet.  The implementation of fleet electric vehicles will result in significant fuel savings, a reduction in maintenance costs and emissions, and will serve as a visible reminder to the public of the benefits and opportunities associated with electric vehicles.

With the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s assistance, the City is very proud to have this been awarded this opportunity and views this as a significant step in helping the State meet their energy and environmental goals.
