The Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut invites you to join us on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Godfrey Memorial Library, 134 Newfield Street, Middletown, CT for a the program "Yizkor Books and Search for Jewish Memory."

Avinoam J. Patt, Ph.D., is the Philip D. Feltman Professor of Modern Jewish History at the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Hartford, where he is also director of the Museum of Jewish Civilization.   Dr. Patt has also worked as the Miles Lerman Applied Research Scholar for Jewish Life and Culture at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM).

Yizkor, which means ‘Remember’ in Hebrew,  is the first word of a memorial prayer for the dead.  ompiled by survivors of the Holocaust, Yizkor books commemorate Jewish communities obliterated by the Nazis and their Jewish residents murdered during the Shoah and can be helpful as genealogical resources.

This program is free and open to the public.

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut houses its library at the Godfrey. JGSCT members can borrow items from the collection of books, periodicals, and audio and visual resources.
