Many in Community Come Together to Support The Buttonwood Tree

The Middlesex County Community Foundation’s Shamrock Fund has granted $2400 to North End Arts Rising (NEAR) / The Buttonwood Tree to provide equipment for its film projects. Directed by The Shamrock Fund / O'Rourke's Diner, the funds come through the Community Foundation and will provide for a new projector, a moveable cart, a Blu-Ray player and the hardware and costs for hanging draperies to darken the room. The drapes will also enhance the already-superb acoustics in the performance space.
The equipment will be of great help to the film class of the Green School Coop, a home-school group which meets at Buttonwood and to the Buddhist Faith Fellowship group, which offers films on (3rd) Wednesdays. In addition, NEAR Executive Director Anne-Marie Cannata, has long wanted to create a film series showing a variety of independent films at The Buttonwood Tree.
Many caring and wonderful people came together to make this happen: Peter Loffredo, of CT Heritage Productions, who donated the fabric for the black-out drapes; Tony Hernandez helped get the fabric together and figure out which pieces would work; John DeBoer, a Wesleyan graduate with sewing skills, donated his time to tailor the drapes; and first and last on the scene was Harris Itkins, of Itkins Decorators, who offered his expert advice and donated his time and skills to properly measure and hang the drapes. The tech-savvy Luis Rodriguez-Vodak of Cardinal Technologies / Wesleyan University provided assistance in purchasing the video equipment and has been an ongoing technological resource for the nonprofit arts organization.

The Buttonwood Tree thanks all of those who came together to make this project a reality—proof that when a community comes together, good things happen!
The next film, Un Buda, will be shown on Wednesday, February 15th and is free of charge - sponsored by the Buddhist Faith Fellowship. http://www.buttonwood.org/?m=20120215&cat=3

OOps, my bad! So Sorry! I must have mixed you up with the other young, smart folks who volunteer for Food Not Bombs, who are Wesleyan students.
