It is important to remember in this, the high season of political propaganda, rhetoric, opinion, etc., etc., that among the most important qualities in a prospective candidate are the ability to express views clearly, to listen to others' views and evaluate them, and to make reasonable decisions based on factors that pertain to doing the best thing at the best time, for the best price (monetary or other) for the good of most of the people.
No candidate is going to be perfect. But many candidates will show promise in some of these areas. No one is going to vote your way 100 per cent of the time. Sometimes the outcome of an issue will please you, sometimes it won't.
But pay attention! Keep in mind the things that are most important to you. Write to your representatives or committee persons, or mayor. Participate as much as you can. And keep your eyes open for candidates who are reasonable and who are able to reason together.

Thank you, Caritas, for this important but too often forgotten wisdom.
