The local chapter of the American Association of University Women, led by the always amazing Barbara Arafeh, will be hosting a local celebration of International Women's Day on Sunday, March 8th from 3 to 5 pm at the Mansfield Freeman Center for East Asian Studies at 343 Washington Terrace on the Wesleyan campus. The United Nation's website has this to say about the day:
International Women's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.
I was able to attend the local celebration a few years back and loved the discussion and storytelling activities which helped me get to know some of the interesting women (from many different countries) who live right here in Middletown. Barbara is a great spokesperson for the need to care about all women world-wide, and to engage on both the local and global level.
The women of AAUW would be delighted to see any members of the general public who wish to attend.
