Beginning Jewish Genealogy Program

A free program on “Beginning Jewish Genealogy” will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2009, 1:30 pm., at Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown. The panelists are all active in the Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut, which is sponsoring the program.

Monica Talmor will talk first, describing how to get started in family history research. Georgia Haken will then discuss the many ports of entry that Jewish immigrants used to enter the country. Marcia Meyers will follow up by talking about important documents and the information that can be learned. Barney Miller will speak about locating Connecticut resources

Arthur Meyers will describe what information can be found on death certificates and through visits to cemeteries. Georgia Haken will bring the audience into the recent past by reviewing the U.S. Census over various decades. Linda Winkelman has her personal experience in searching for family and Doris Nabel describes Internet search tools and indispensable links. Arthur Meyers will conclude the program by describing what to do with what you find!

Directions to Godfrey: From I-91, exit 22S onto Route 9 South. Exit 15 onto Route 66 West (Washington Street). At fifth traffic light, turn right onto Route 3 North (Newfield Street). The Library is approximately 1/4 mile on the right. From I-95, take Exit 69 onto Route 9 North. Take Exit 15 and follow above directions.
