2019-2020 Season of Annual Environmental Film Series Kicks Off October 7!

Save the date! The Elements: An Annual Environmental Film Series will kick off on Monday, October 7, 2019 with a screening of The Human Element, about how environmental change is affecting the lives of everyday Americans.  It explores how human activities alter the basic elements of life—earth, air, water, and fire—which in turn change human life (https://thehumanelementmovie.com/)

The film will be shown at 7 pm, at Wesleyan University’s Ring Family Performing Arts Hall, 287 Washington Terrace, Middletown CT.  As always, the film is open to the public and free of charge.  After the film, we welcome you to stay for an informal discussion.

Additional films in the 2019-2020 series are:

Ice on Fire, November 4, 2019, Middlesex Community College, Chapman Hall. Focuses on solutions designed to slow down our escalating environmental crisis. The film highlights firsthand accounts of people at the forefront of the climate crisis, with insights from scientists, farmers, innovators and others. It even features a farm off the coast of CT!

Artifishal, February 3, 2020, Wesleyan University’s Ring Family Performing Arts Hall.  A film about people, rivers, and the fight for the future of wild fish and the environment that supports them. It explores wild salmon’s slide toward extinction, threats posed by fish hatcheries and fish farms, and our continued loss of faith in nature.

A Concerned Citizen: Civics in Action, April 6, 2020, Middlesex Community College, Chapman Hall. Documents the work of Dr. Riki Ott, a citizen activist who came to the aid of her Alaskan community after the Exxon Valdez oil spill in their battle to get fair compensation for their loss of health and income, and is organizing the Gulf coast communities as they recover from the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster. Taking her lessons learned as an activist, she is spearheading a campaign called Ultimate Civics, a civics curriculum that empowers students to participate in their democracy.
