Council To Consider $750,000 For Parking Lot Improvements

Nearly $750,000 will be spent to construct and improve downtown parking lots, if the Common Council approves an issue of $600,000 in bonds tonight. A $150,000 contribution to these lots will come from Parking Fund revenue.

The money would be used to construct a new lot behind Eli Cannon's, on King Street, and to improve and renovate the lot behind Kidcity, the Russell Library lot, lots on Green Street, Hubbard, Liberty Square, Liberty Street, and the metered spaces on Main and Court Streets.

Jen Alexander, Parking Committee member, said that in evaluating the city's parking situation, a large amount of deferred maintenance, including lighting, security, and paving was identified. This bond and Parking Fund revenue and would pay for the installation of security cameras, phones, and lighting, in addition to paving.

Alexander said the bond would be paid back entirely out of Parking Fund revenue.
