Opinion: Bartolotta Brings Caring, Experience, and Passion

Submitted by Patricia Charles, Ed.D., former superintendent of Middletown Public Schools.

I am supporting Mary Bartolotta as our next Mayor of Middletown. I have worked with Mary on various projects and have found Mary to be extremely hard working.  I am certain she will roll up her sleeves and put her all into leading our city.  Mary always does her homework and asks the hard questions before deciding on an issue – even when the question might rub against the grain.  Mary will look at issues from all sides – considering everyone’s position before coming to a conclusion.

Mary Bartolotta cares deeply about our City and will make positive change.  She will fight for a voice for all City employees, make hiring decisions based on merit rather than politics, and improve the condition of our schools.  We would not have a new middle school under construction today if it weren’t for Mary.  When I served as Superintendent of Middletown Public Schools,  I worked with Mary in her capacity as chairperson of the building committee. I observed that she paid attention to all the details and was a stickler for ensuring everything was done properly. She checked and double checked the work.

Mary is passionate about Middletown.  Additionally, her experience on the Middletown Common Council and chairing committees on Finance and Government Operations, General Council Commission, as well as serving on the Public Safety, Recreations and Community Services commissions, and Retirement Board make her well prepared to serve as our next Mayor.  Mary has the background, understanding, and commitment to carry Middletown into the future.

Thank you for writing this! It's very helpful to read these letters from people who are willing to say why they support a candidate.

Why would a public school leader support Bartolotta, whose child isn't even in the public schools. Shouldn't someone who wants to be Mayor truly support our public schools?
