Florsheim Qualifies For Primary Ballot, Submitting Over 1,000 Signatures Gathered by Volunteers & Fellow Candidates

From the Florsheim campaign.
-----------
Democratic candidate for mayor Ben Florsheim announced this afternoon that he has submitted over 1,000 signatures from Middletown voters and exceeded the qualifying threshold of 610 registered Democrats to gain ballot access.

“These past few weeks have been deeply gratifying, and our team proved without a doubt that we’re the ones with the energy, organization, and dedication to win the primary, defeat the Republicans, and move Middletown forward,” said Florsheim. “We approached getting signatures the same way we’ve approached winning votes: one face-to-face conversation at a time.'

“I want to thank everyone who believed in this campaign enough to make this happen, including more than half of our endorsed Common Council candidates and a team of over 30 volunteers who went door to door talking about our vision for new progressive leadership in Middletown."

“Some of the Democrats running say progressive values are just ‘buzzwords,’ or that the status quo is good enough. Once they start talking to voters, I suspect they’ll find that neither opinion is widely shared. People in Middletown love their city-- and it’s because they love it that they want to see us working harder and rising higher. And they know the real deal when they see it. I think that our team has proven in the past few weeks that that’s exactly who we are.

“I also want to thank Ashley Flynn, Lisa Santangelo, and everyone in the offices of the Town Clerk and Registrar of Voters. They’ve been working round the clock to process signatures from a record number of candidates, and their professionalism and dedication to the democratic process should make everyone in Middletown proud."

“So what’s next? Not much different-- we’re going to keep talking to voters every day between now and September 10. I’m excited and humbled by the strength of this movement, and I’m looking forward to the weeks and months ahead.”
