Council Sends $5M Open Space Bond Referendum To Public Vote

The Common Council voted unanimously to send to voters a $5M bond measure for the acquisition of and improvement of new open space. This would be the first bond for the acquisition of open space in the city in over 10 years.

Laney Bank invoked the memory of Katchen Coley, who was instrumental in the preservation of over 1,000 acres of land as open space. Councilwoman Mary Bartolotta praised her as one of the first people she worked with. Councilman Phil Pessina warned that she was looking down and would strangle him if he did not support it.

Voters will make the final decision on the $5M bond, via the ballot box in the November election.
