The Brass Quintet from the Hartt Performance 20/20 program performs March 3 in the Hubbard Room of the Russell Library. |
Performance 20/20 is the Honors Chamber Music Program of The Hartt School. It comprises a select group of gifted undergraduate and graduate instrumental performance majors who share a strong commitment to chamber music. Through an intensive schedule of rehearsals and weekly coaching, participants perform on regularly scheduled Performance 20/20 chamber music concerts throughout the year. Performance 20/20 members are offered full scholarships and the opportunity to study and perform chamber music in a professional atmosphere in addition to their other degree-required courses.
Among the standout ensembles in the Hartt Performance 20/20 program is the Brass Quintet – trumpeters James McAloon, Jr and Laura Egyed,French hornist Shondra Texeira, trombonist Rob Earhart, and tubist Danielle Kendall. The group formed a unique bond as they began to rehearse in their assigned ensemble. Having already been featured in several fall Performance 20/20 concerts, the group is also engaged a Niagara Falls, NY tour, and in a series of Connecticut public school appearances, performing for and talking to children who are just beginning their own music education. This is their second Hartt@Home appearance this year.
The Hartt Performance 20/20 Brass Quintet will present exciting works for quintet by living composers Anthony DiLorenzo, David Sampson, and Sonny Kompanek, and Andrew Sorg. Mr. Sorg is expected to attend and will speak about his intriguing piece Mental Disorders before the performance. The program will also include a group of songs from George Gershwin’s masterpiece Porgy and Bess.
